Doing Yoga Everywhere

Writer: Tracey L. KelleyTracey L. Kelley

My habit of carrying a yoga mat on vacation started many years ago. I found the slimmest one possible, rolled it up tight, and attached it to my carry-on (because folding and tucking it inside would take up too much space!)

As much as I love retreats dedicated solely to yogic pursuits, any vacation presents a wonderful opportunity to shake up the traditional routine but also ground yourself in the familiar.

I've practiced yoga all around the world: in classes, on the beach, in parks, on a hotel room floor, in an airport lounge, and many other locations, including on this tranquil little balcony during a recent trip to the Florida Keys.

I've practiced in-between flights, after walking 10 miles on a long touristy day trek, before going to sleep, after a bike accident—even on vacation, it's a habit I simply can't break.

And I have a lot of fun photos of my travel mat in action! They serve as reminders of how, when I take care of myself, I'm able to combine two of my favorite activities together and weave them into the fabric of life. Plus a good stretch is welcome any time!

If you've snapped an Insta-worthy pic of you and your mat in a non-traditional place, I'd love to see them and hear your story.
