Self-Study: Listen to the Connection

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

Here's a conversation some of us don't want to have: what is your body really revealing about your state of whole being?

In yoga, the phrase "mind, body, and spirit" is repeated often. And again. And one more time, for good measure. But what does this connection really mean? How does it present itself? How can we mere mortals understand it?

About 10 years ago, Deb Shapiro ventured into this abyss with the book, Your Body Speaks Your Mind: Decoding the Emotional, Psychological, and Spiritual Messages That Underlie Illness.

I'm constantly fascinated by these messages, and believe, as one of my teachers once said, "the issues are in the tissues." But what are those issues? How do you address them with compassion? How do you continue to move into better synchronicity? We can never, ever, ever think there's a separation between the mind, body, and spirit -- the real question is, do we want to listen to and acknowledge what each aspect of whole self has to say? I've had this book on my shelf for quite a while, and decided it was time to dust it off and begin an exploration of understanding with it. I may also encourage others to consider reading it so we can have another interesting book discussion like we did with The Untethered Soul in February. If you've already read Your Body... please reach out and share your insights!
